A ‘sea monster’ has washed up on a beach, with no real shape or form aside from two disproportionately large ‘balls’.
The creature has no eyes, mouth, limbs or fins that people have been able to find.
It is half covered in sand, and may not be the whole of the thing’s body or head.
People have been marvelling over what it could be, Metro UK reports.
‘It weighed around 7 pounds and if i had to guess about 5 inches wide,’ Reddit user xxviiparadise said after asking for help to identify it.
They said they discovered it on Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu, California.
So far, the suggestions are…
A Cowrie snail
It could be the soft body of a large sea snail, washed up without its shell. There are certain species of sea snail which are relatively common off the coast of California.
It looks like ‘whatever lives inside the seashell,’ someone suggested.
A dead sea hare
These are also known as a Californian sea slugs, named ‘hare’ because of the protrusions on their head which looks like ‘ears’.
They can grow to very large sizes, some over half a metre long.
Well, there are large parts of the ocean floor we have very little idea of.
So, it’s possible this could be some new and creepy species we’ve never heard of before…
