Antonio Conte has warned Alvaro Morata to ignore speculation surrounding his future and focus on ensuring Chelsea enjoy a successful end to their season. Victory on Sunday over Liverpool, coupled with Tottenham’s shock defeat at West Brom, has reignited hopes of a top four finish, while there is also an FA Cup final against Manchester United to look forward to in under a fortnight’s time.
After a prolific start to his Stamford Bridge career, Morata’s form has nosedived since the turn of the year. The Spain international gave a candid interview to Marca over the weekend in which he revealed the extent of a debilitating back injury and the abuse he has received in the street
The former Real Madrid striker has been linked with a return to Juventus in the summer but Conte warned the club’s record purchase he must be ready if called upon, having lost his place in the starting line-up to January signing Olivier Giroud.
‘He is fit and in contention for tomorrow’s game,’ Conte confirmed ahead of Wednesday’s game against Huddersfield. ‘I don’t like to comment on speculation. It is not right and we have to focus on the present and finish the season in the best way.
‘He is Chelsea’s player and must be ready to play tomorrow and next season. The situation is very clear. ‘I think in this season it was difficult, not only for him. I like the focus to be on the whole team, not only the one player.’
