Eden Hazard rates Olivier Giroud’s full Chelsea debut

Eden Hazard has heaped praise on Chelsea’s new signing Olivier Giroud after he allowed the Belgian international to play his preferred game in the win over West Brom.

Chelsea eased to a 3-0 victory over the Baggies on Monday night and Hazard played an integral role in his side’s victory, scoring twice in the process. But after the game, the forward paid credit to his new team-mate Giroud, who created the opening goal with a deft touch inside the box.

‘He’s a great target man,’ Hazard explained to Sky Sports after the game. ‘One of the best in England, so when we pass the ball to him we can go around him – not just me, Willian and Pedro too. ‘He’s a good point of reference. So let’s play together. But it’s not just him, we have Alvaro too and I can play as a striker.’

When asked why Hazard enjoys playing alongside a target man, he replied: ‘Because I think it’s the best decision for me. ‘When I pass then I can go forward. I’m faster without the ball than with it. ‘When I pass I think all the defenders are looking for the striker and maybe they forget me. In one second I can make a difference and that’s what I did for the first one.’

Chelsea’s next game is against Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round on February 16 before hosting Barcelona in the Champions League.
