Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to complete a third summer signing before the World Cup begins, according to reports. United have already secured a £52 million deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
And Mourinho’s side quickly followed that up with a £19m move for Porto full-back Diogo Dalot. According to The Sun, Mourinho wants United to finalise negotiations for a third transfer before the World Cup starts on Thursday evening.
The report claims that the United manager is ‘desperate’ to land Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham, with the Belgian set to cost £50m.
Although reports elsewhere have suggested that United’s scouts have expressed concern about bringing the Belgium international to Old Trafford and are exploring alternative options. ‘The club want two or three more signings at least this summer. Jose is keen to improve across the board.’ a source at United told The Sun.
Gareth Bale is also on United’s radar after admitting that he was looking to leave Real Madrid after their victory in the Champions League final. But any deal is likely to drag on throughout the summer, especially as Madrid are now searching for a new manager following Zinedine Zidane’s surprise decision to step down
