Jose Mourinho says Manchester United are ‘very positive’ that Sir Alex Ferguson’s condition will improve. The 76-year-old was rushed to hospital on Saturday and was forced to undergo emergency surgery later that day due to a brain hemorrhage.
The former United boss has since woken up and is said to have joked about attending Liverpool’s Champions League final clash with Real Madrid. Mourinho refused to disclose if he had spoken to Ferguson but says the club are confident that the Scot will make a recovery.
Asked if he’d been in contact with Ferguson, Mourinho replied: ‘It’s private. His family ask for privacy and that’s what I’m going to respect.
‘We are positive. We are very, very positive.’ ‘We are confident [he will recover].’
The likes of David De Gea, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick and Chris Smalling all played under Sir Alex at Old Trafford. The news has hit many of the Scot’s former players hard but Mourinho insists there will not be a negative reaction. ‘I can only think that if there is any relation [to the West Ham game] it is a positive relation.’
