Jose Mourinho has revealed the four teams he believes will reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. In an interview with RT Sport, the Manchester United manager named Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and Germany as his World Cup semi-finalists.
The action gets underway on Thursday when hosts Russia face Saudi Arabia in Moscow. Holders Germany, Brazil and Spain are among the favourites to lift the World Cup come July 15.
Mourinho reckons Gareth Southgate’s England will reach the quarter-finals before being beaten by the Brazilians. ‘Brazil vs England, it’s a big match. It’s not bad for me that my players can go on holiday,’ the Red Devils boss said. The 55-year-old is backing his native Portugal for a productive run in Russia and believes they can beat Uruguay and France to reach the last-eight.
Mourinho can envisage Spain taking on Argentina for a place in the quarter-finals and Lionel Messi coming out on top to dump the Spaniards out. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is also confident the Germans are set for a significance run, tipping them to beat Belgium in the last-16 round. England’s first group game is against Tunisia on June 15 – the Three Lions then face Panama and Belgium as they bid to reach the knockout stages.
