Roma have congratulated former player Mohamed Salah on Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final win and wished him luck in the final against Real Madrid. The Egyptian, who moved from Rome to Merseyside last summer, tormented his old club in the first leg, scoring twice and setting up two further goals for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Salah was quieter on his return to the Stadio Olimpico, though, with Liverpool surviving a scare to progress to the final despite Roma winning the second leg 4-2.
But Roma showed there were no hard feelings after the game, sending a heartfelt message to Salah alongside a picture showing him in both Roma and Liverpool’s kits. ‘It hurts so much that AS Roma’s incredible dream of going all the way to Kiev is over,’ Roma wrote on Twitter.
It hurts so much that #ASRoma’s incredible dream of going all the way to Kiev is over but you’ll be there in your new colours.

‘But you’ll be there in your new colours. Good luck in the Champions League final, Mo Salah. #ForzaRoma #YNWA’ Although Salah did not get on the score sheet in Rome, he has netted 10 times in the Champions League this season – the joint-second most in the competition, alongside teammate Firmino and behind only Cristiano Ronaldo.
