I’m tempted to begin this discussion by thanking my grandmother, because she was the one who picked me up when I couldn’t find my muse and directed me to the place where inspiration flows and from there I developed to become a great writer.
Writing is a wonderful gift and an amazing adventure , apart from opening the world to you, it’s makes you create, define and build a World you can always call your own.
I started writing when I was 6, but my father always wanted me to be a lawyer, because he was a lawyer, and besides writers were not seen as happy people during their time.
It was my grandmother who encourage me and I’m so happy today that I followed her advice. She will teach me some rhymes, read me some poem, sing me a song, force me to write anything, there was no single day, she won’t coach me to write at least a 1000 word story even if it makes no sense. “Just write, keep writing” she will laugh at my ignorance.
Two important words you should know as a writer, which I Learned very early in life are ” rejection and acceptance”. Your work is either rejected or accepted, but to tell you the truth, they both means the same thing depending on how you react to each of them.
My father rejected my writing talent, I had to write day and night to make sure I convinced him that I can make a living from writing, he didn’t support my writing until I won a novel competition.
As a writer, I have face countless number of rejections, but they only propel me to keep developing myself and doing my best so that I can stand out from the crowd.
If you are a writer and you can’t face rejection, then you have not started. There are so many lessons I’ve learned from rejection which I will share with you here during this few days.
But always remember that your creativity and passion is more powerful than any rejection letter, don’t give up writing because of just one rejection letter… Keep writing till you become the best.
I will appreciate questions and comments below.
See you tomorrow.
