A British member of parliament opens up to UK parliament that he is HIV positive

By Associated Press

A British member of parliament was being praised after disclosing in the House of Commons that he is HIV positive.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, from the opposition Labour Party, said he wanted to “say to those living with HIV that your status does not define you”.

“We can be whoever we want to be.”

His speech was met with rare applause.

He was leading an adjournment debate in the UK’s lower house of parliament on HIV and World Aids Day.

Labour’s leader Jeremy Corbyn called his speech “brave” and “moving”.
