Fake news site on social media uses Jacinda Adern picture to sell Bitcoin

A fake news website on Facebook used the image of New Zealand Prime Minister for promoting Bitcoin and altcoins. A local news media outlet, Stuff said that the website appeared like CNN, a prominent news media which circulated that New Zealand Treasury has invested 250 million or “half” of its total wealth in “Bitcoin Revolution”.

Previously in 2018, Jacinda Adern, Prime Minister has expressed her concern which he said, “we should all be concerned about the fake news.” Though the Government has said this, yet the misleading ads have continued to be there on facebook. The Government became aware after Stuff’s report became public.

This led the Prime Minister’s office to contact Facebook and the social media site removed them. The Prime Minister’s office spokeswoman commented,
