A former female Spanish teacher has been jailed in the US for bunking off school to make sex tapes with a teenage student at his house.
Ekatherine Pappas, 25, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual offences against a minor last month and was sentenced to three years imprisonment at a Baltimore court in Maryland on Monday, The Sun UK reports.
Pappas taught Spanish at Franklin High School and is where she met the 16-year-old victim, the Baltimore Sun has reported.
A police inquiry started when a sex tape of Pappas and the student emerged in January and was circulated around the school.
Though 16 is the sexual age of consent in the state of Maryland – teachers are not allowed to have sex with their students, because they are in a position of authority.
His dad told the court: “I cannot begin to explain the terror of being notified that my son had been sexually abused and it was on videotape that had been circulated throughout the school for others to see.”
It is believed the student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has not returned to school since the video was released.
The father said the family has been affected “in devastating and profound ways”.
He added: “As a young man, this entire ordeal has been extremely confusing for him, just as it would be for any victim that is exposed to sexual activity before they are at a level of maturity.
“Our home is no longer viewed as a safe environment, since it is the location where the assault took place.”
