I Should Have Warned Her About Dangerous Men, And Not Animals, Says Father Of Indian Teenager Who Was Raped And Murdered

The family of a 16-year-old schoolgirl from India  who was raped and murdered is still inconsolable two weeks after the gruesome incident. The victim, a student of Class X at the Government Senior Secondary School in Mahasu had gone missing on July 4, while she was returning home from school, India times reports.

Two days later her body was found in Halaila forests of Mahasu, with injuries all over her face and body. The postmortem confirmed rape and death by strangulation.

According to police, the girl was returning home alone that day through a patch which was covered by forest and apple orchards when she was attacked.

Police have arrested six people including the owner of an orchard in connection with the case.

The girl’s family said she and her brother used to take the 5 Km stretch together with some other student regularly, but on the fateful day, she was alone.

“I had always warned her about wild animals, that she should watch out, especially for bears, on the way, but she would say, ‘Relax, papa… No one can harm me’. I wish I had warned her about men who are worse than beasts,” the father of the victim was quoted as saying in The Indian Express.

Despite police claiming to have cracked the case, there is a simmering protest in the area which has refused to buy the police version of the story.
