Plus-size vlogger shuts down body shamers with her ‘fat girl summer dress code’

Summer can be a minefield when it comes to fashion.

It’s hot and muggy and unless you’re a Victoria’s Secret model, you’ll find that plenty of people have opinions about what you should and should not be wearing.

Got normal sized arms? Swerve the strapless tops.

Got shapely legs? Maybe opt for a maxi rather than a miniskirt.

And God forbid you contemplate donning a bikini unless you’ve been doing daily HIIT sessions for the last four months.

So one YouTuber is helping us to navigate the sartorial summer season with her own ‘Fat Girl Summer Dress Code’, Metro UK reports.

‘I have been informed many times on what I am and am not allowed to wear so I’m here to educate all of you on your summer dress code,’ says Loey Lane.

‘And if you’re thinking “can’t I just wear anything I want?”, no! Why would you do that? Why would anyone just wear what makes them confident, happy and not think about how others feel about the garments they’re putting on their own bodies?’

She goes through a number of clothing items best avoided by larger women.

Like crop tops…

‘Crop tops aren’t actually made to suit larger bodies, that’s why they don’t sell them in plus sizes…oh,’ she says as a picture of a model wearing a plus-size crop top pops up.

…shorts…

‘You are completely expected to spend the entire summer in full-length leggings and/or jeans.

‘It’s still nice to wear a turtleneck and leggings — maybe another pair of leggings over the leggings too, just so you’re not showing any signs of any kind of cellulite underneath those.

‘Have you ever seen a fat girl rocking a pair of shorts?’

…or tight dresses, jeans or anything tight of any kind

‘Being able to see your figure is unacceptable. I would just maybe wear a brown sack…wear some leggings underneath obviously.’

Loey – whose YouTube channel has well over a million subscribers – regularly talks about plus-size fashion and beauty, and her satirical video is the perfect response to anyone who thinks larger women should have to dress differently to anyone else.

Because of course you can and should wear what you want. Especially in the summer where you’d melt to death if you took fat shamers’ advice.

‘Yeah, this dress code doesn’t seem like a great idea at all…it’s hot outside,’ Loey concludes.

‘If you’re fat, wear whatever you want. If you’re thin, wear whatever you want. If you are really fit and really in shape, wear whatever you want. If you’re a man, wear whatever you want.

‘If you’re a human who doesn’t identify as anything, wear whatever you want.’

No amount of style can hide your morbid obesity.

Disgusting how about you lose the way and truly feel pretty instead of lying to yourself.

The only ones saying, “You go girl” and “Killing it!” are other fat women. Stop lying. She is morbidly obese and does not have the figure to wear cropped tops, shorts and body hugging dresses. Those items are for the thin who have earned the right to wear them. If she doesn’t want to lose weight, she needs to get back in the closet where she belongs. Please, we need to bring back body shaming and the marginalization of fats.
