Theresa May might have just met her biggest fan in Waitrose.
The Prime Minister was doing some last minute Christmas shopping on Friday night when she was stopped by Charles Chapman in Twyford, Berkshire. He immediately asked her for a selfie and could be seen putting his arm around her shoulder as they took a picture together.
Mr Chapman had to get the OK from her four bodyguards first before he could take the snap but the PM seemed more than happy to pose for the pic.
He said: ‘She was in high spirits. ‘I thought she had been through a tough time lately so I put my arm around her and asked for a photo. ‘When I asked her to press the shutter, she knew what to do.’
Mr Chapman, a graphic designer from Berkshire, said Mrs May wished him a merry Christmas afterwards and continued shopping with her husband Philip.
He added: ‘It looked like she was planning a big dinner. ‘I have seen her in Waitrose before – but that was before she was one of the most famous people in the world.’ Mrs May had put her Brexit difficulties to the side during the shopping trip near her Sonning home in Berkshire. The Tory leader is facing a Commons’ revolt over her controversial plans to leave the European Union.
