A young mother was kept alive for 123 days so that her babies could survive.
The Woman named Frankielen da Silva Zampoli Padilha, 21,who was was nine-weeks pregnant with twins suffered a stroke that left her brain dead.
According to Caters News, doctors at Nosso Senhora do Rocio Hospital warned Frankielen’s husband, Muriel, that the twins would likely not survive. The trauma Frankielen endured would be too much for them to handle and their hearts would eventually stop beating. Once that awful day came, he could turn off the life support and bury his wife and two babies.
Days turned into weeks and the young embryos flourished, surviving against all odds in their mother’s womb. They were there for a total of 123 days until they were delivered via C-section.
According to Caters News, this is the longest period of time in medical history that a brain dead pregnant woman was kept alive on life support.
The babies were healthy but premature and required three months in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Today, the twins are at home with their father and their grandmother, Frankielen’s mother, Angela Silva.
“I’m so proud of my daughter,” Silva told Caters News. “It’s been hard losing her but she was a warrior right until the end, protecting her beautiful children and giving them life until the day she finally died.”
