If I forget myself, please draw me closer to you

By Abel Udoekene

If life situation presses me to forget who I am
and I run out of patience,
Please don’t throw me away,
teach me how to wait,
how to pray,
and how to long for you alone.

If I forget your ways and climb on the shoulder of pride,
don’t let me fall into shame,
teach me the reward of humility,
and redirect me back to the path where your love flows.

If I become so adamant to love because of past hurts,
open my heart to love again,
to hope again,
to believe again,
Even when my heart is breaking.

If I ever forget to discuss my needs with you,
and I become so attached to earthly pleasures,
don’t forsake me in times of needs,
draw me closer to you,
and teach me how to lean sorely on you.
