There is more to life than this

By Abel Udoekene

In my 3rd grade, I was told that
Life is a stimulant,
it set you off like a bomb,
you either get blown halfway
or you get settled on a new destination.

So I stored it behind my medulla,
think about it every night during moonlight
remember it every morning when the sun rises,
and carried it on my wrist as an old wristwatch .

When the rain falls
I feel it’s blade hurting down my spine,
I watched beautiful children playing under the rain ,
I watched their parents getting hurt by their actions,
“come out, you will fall” they yelled
yet they keep playing,
when they fall, they rise, smile and continue playing.
Life goes on.

Last Friday, she broke my heart,
I heard it on the news as it trump down my loneliness,
My heart bleeds of hurting shadows,
But my mind sings of unending hope.
Life goes on.

Monday night they killed my friend
as he hustle to make the family smile,
I tried to keep cool and look up,
but I have tasted every tears you could possibly imagine,
My soul crumbles, I am so sad.
Life goes on.

Today I’m still standing,
starring at tomorrow with a lot of hope,
Surely, there is more to life than this,
Let’s take over today for the sake of tomorrow.
