Newsflash: It’s okay to have bad days.
Because all the self-help books, Tony Robbins’ speeches, and ice cream in the world can’t cure you of those. Like the common cold of the soul, you just have to accept them when they take hold of you, and battle on through to the other side.
It’s okay to wake up on the wrong side of the bed, snooze your alarm, and drift back into the comfort of dreamland again. Sometimes you’ll just need a few more hours in bed. Sometimes you won’t feel ready to face the world just yet.
It’s okay to be sitting writing your gratitude list and struggle to find 10 things to write, even though that part of you deep down knows you’re incredibly lucky to be writing this damn chore of a list.
It’s okay to stare at your laptop screen or get distracted by your phone pinging when you’re supposed to be working on your day job or your dreams. Because you’re not perfect. Breaking bad habits takes longer than you think it will, and sometimes your willpower will fall to an all-time low.
It’s okay if you don’t feel like smiling today. You don’t have to paint or plaster on a fake one to please your parents, your partner, or that guy who serves you your chai latte each morning. You don’t owe this world your cheeriness.
It’s okay to ignore that annoyingly optimistic friend of yours and smother their positive energy with your current toxicity. Who gives a fuck about the bright side today anyway.
I want you to know it’s okay to feel shit sometimes, y’know?
It’s okay to skip your gym class and polish off a box of chocolates instead because nothing sounds more appealing right now. The gym will still be there tomorrow, and you can push yourself a little bit harder then.
It’s okay to allow that drizzly grey cloud tenancy above your head today and wallow beneath your private, silent storm. Because without the rain, you cannot have the rainbow. Just know that the sun hasn’t forever abandoned you; she’s closer than you think she is.
It’s okay to feel like nothing is going your way, and someone up there is amusing themselves by playing puppeteer to your strings. We all feel like that sometimes.
It’s okay to look at that sprouting to-do list staring you down, say fuck it, and proceed to do nothing but doodle and daydream for the rest of your day.
It’s okay to let a sad songs playlist loop on in the background and allow yourself to make a comforting blanket out of other’s heartache.
It’s okay to rest your head in your hands, and just let those tears roll down your face. For whatever reason, or no reason at all.
I need you to know it’s okay to not be okay all the time. Bad days will find their way to all of us. But trust that those grey skies will eventually part for brilliant blue ones. Trust that this weight pulling you down will be lifted.
Trust that better days are patiently waiting for you on the not-so-distant horizon.
