Tithe! Not Passed away with the Law?
In part 1 of this article, I addressed the question Tithe! Abrahamic not Mosaic?
And by scriptures I established that Tithing did not originate with Moses (Law) but with Abraham. Thus Tithing is Abrahamic not Mosaic and christians, are admonished to do the works or follow the steps of Abraham’s Faith. Hence Christians should tithe because Abraham tithed.
In examining this second reason Christians should tithe it is important to note that the statement ” Tithe has passed away with the law ” alongside the origination of tithe, is one of the most misunderstood part of the kingdom principle of Tithing.
So, you hear folks ignorantly say, tithe is by the law ( which is not ) and has passed with the law ( which has not ).
We have earlier proved that tithing didn’t originate with the law. Could it have then passed away with the Law?
Let’s hear the scriptures;
” And this I say that the covenant, that was confirmed before of GOD in CHRIST, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.” – Gal 3:17.
In the scripture above the Apostle Paul is butressing the point that “ORIGIN MATTERS”.
“You cannot disannul a thing apart from it’s origin.”
” You cannot uproot a thing away from where it is rooted.”
“A plant cannot be said to have been uprooted from a location where it was not rooted.”
And as proven by scriptures in article 1 that tithing did not originate from the law but tithing has been confirmed or established four hundred and thirty years ( 430 years ) before the law. How could we then assume that tithing did pass away with the law when it did not originate from the law.
It is obvious going by the scriptures, if tithing did not originate from the law then it couldn’t have been uprooted with the law. No! Tithing hasn’t passed away with the law as it did not come by the law.
Someone may say, ok, I agree, tithing did not originate from the law but why then in the law?
It was in the law for the simple fact that the custodians of the law, the children of Israel are also the children of Abraham and so are required to do the works or follow in the steps of Abraham’s Faith. John 8:39.
It is sad to note, but many believers don’t know what the Bible means when it says the law has been done away with. Many has been wrongly taught.
I ask some of them, if the law has been done away with in the way you claim it,
Why teach fornication is bad, don’t commit adultery? But Paul taught it, they would answer, and I would ask, but why did Paul teach it, wasn’t it part of the commandments of the law? Didn’t the same Paul teach that the commandments written on the tablet of stones has been done away with? Then they begin to wonder.
Every Christian I know agree that homosexuality is bad and I agree too but why believe that after all it was also part of the law.
Some may say, oh! GOD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of that and that was before the law. And I ask, if you embrace that because it was before the law, is tithing not before the law?
Paul the Apostle taught in Eph 6:1 ” Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.”
And in verse 2-3, he rightly stated ” Honour thy father and mother: which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee and thou mayest live long on the earth “.
That is Paul, teaching and quoting from the ten commandments engraven in stones, one that is said to be done away with and he rightly noted, ” it is the first commandment with promise “.
Could Paul be contradicting himself?
The obvious is, many today have not understood rightly what Paul taught about the law that has been done away.
However to discuss the law that has been done away is another whole teaching on it’s own and GOD willing, that I would do in another separate article from tithing.
Let’s stop here and GOD willing to continue later as I want to make this really simple as the title suggests.
In conclusion, tithing did not pass away with the law as it did not originate from the law.
Grace and peace
